When I stepped out of my car in the parking lot at work this morning, I took a deep breath. There was a very light mist in the air and it was about 67°. I thought to myself, "Ah, Oregon." I would love to move to the Northwest one day for the same reason that someone... Continue Reading →
The Tree
Outside my office window there is a tree. During the spring and summer, while the leaves are filed with chlorophyll, the leaves are a rich green hue. But something special happens in Fall. Every year, it glows bright yellow, like the light in one of those dreams where you have to squint. I've only recently... Continue Reading →
In Light of… Wine
After spending a few beautiful days in the wine country of Sonoma and Napa Valley, California, I thought it appropriate to post some of my favorite quotes on the nectar of God's green earth, wine. I'll start with some warning words. As with anything we enjoy, we enjoy it with care, knowing that the abuse... Continue Reading →
weakly prayer – glory and creation
Creator God (Elohim), This sunset view from 35,000 feet makes me wonder if You gave us the airplane simply to have a better view. Is there any place more important right now than seeing Your glory through this small window? I’ll stay right here and look with all my eyes. Before now, I did not... Continue Reading →
upkeep of the global garden
Today's high in my neck of the woods was a chilly 38 degrees. However, I enjoy the irony of pointing out this story in the New York Times which tells of the massive changes in Greenland's landscape due to the melting of the ice shelf. Do these observed climate changes represent a pollution problem on... Continue Reading →

In that great land, where the cactus milk flows like honey, I realized... Continue Reading →

Krista took me on a weekend trip to Fall Creek Falls for my birthday. For me, that is like going to Disney World. Here are a few pictures, which I will soon have posted on my pictures page (Mouse over each picture for a brief description). Some thoughts while sitting out on the balcony on... Continue Reading →
winter storm, tennessee style
As you can see above, we had a “winter storm” this past weekend that shut down the schools. This was the aftermath on Monday morning. As you can see, the area was devastated by snow. The weather experts predicted that 2-4 inches would fall. I suppose that they were using postmodern math.
imago Deo
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27, ESV) “Then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” (Genesis 2:7,... autumn’s quiet and color
Have you noticed the peace which begins to settle over creation during this season before the deadness of Winter? The trees have quietly brought out new colors in Autumn as one last reminder that the deadness we will see in Winter does not have the last word. By the way, Brian and I took a... Continue Reading →
